Bratwurst and White Beans with Sage

Jump to Recipe Print Recipe

As we transition into fall, I start craving comfort food-type dishes, especially ones that don’t take all day to make, because despite still working from home, I find that I have even less time to cook!

Bratwurst and White Beans with Sage

This recipe for Bratwurst and White Beans with Sage is a quick and easy dinner that also only uses one pan, so it has quickly become a favorite of mine.

Bratwurst and White Beans with Sage

The recipe has under 10 ingredients too, so it’s an easy one to add to your grocery list.

Bratwurst and White Beans with Sage

Ingredients:

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 4 bratwurst, sliced into coins
  • 3 whole garlic cloves
  • 4 fresh sage leaves, plus more for garnish
  • 2 (15 oz) cans cannellini beans, rinsed and drained
  • 1 cup unsweetened apple juice
  • salt and pepper, to taste
  • day old bread, for serving (optional)

Add 1 tablespoon olive oil to a large pan over medium-high heat. When heated, add the sliced bratwurst and cook undisturbed until browned, about 5 minutes, and flip the coins. Cook for another 5 minutes.

Add in the whole garlic cloves and sage leaves, being sure to coat the sage leaves in the oil. Cook for 2-3 minutes, or until the garlic is fragrant.

Add in in the rinsed beans and apple juice, and season with salt and pepper stirring to combine. Bring to a simmer, cover, and cook for 20 minutes.

Top with chopped fresh sage, if desired. Serve with crusty bread.

The bratwurst adds nice seasoning to this dish, complemented by the sage. The apple juice adds a touch of sweetness to the dish too.

Bratwurst and White Beans with Sage

The combination of cannellini beans and bratwurst is nice and comforting without being overly heavy. The apple juice cooks down and thickens a bit, so it’s great to sop up with some bread. I love the simplicity of this dish, and it’s definitely been heavy in our dinner rotation recently!

Really enjoyed this; not your traditional bratwurst dish. Very hearty and filling. Will make again!
