Salmon Ceviche

Jump to Recipe Print Recipe

Ceviche is a surprisingly easy meal to make at home, and this Salmon Ceviche is no exception! I know it seems like it would be super intimidating but trust me, you can have this seemingly fancy dish ready in 30 minutes!

Salmon Ceviche

The one thing to keep in mind when making salmon ceviche is that it is strongly suggested to use salmon that has been previously frozen to help ensure food safety. Ceviche is raw, after all!

Salmon Ceviche

For recipes like this Salmon Ceviche, I use my salmon filets from Sitka Seafood Market. (I have a subscription, and have had one for years, but the link is not an affiliate link) Sitka Seafood Market’s Salmon is wild caught and quickly frozen, so I know it is safe for raw consumption.

Salmon Ceviche

This Salmon Ceviche comes together quickly. Once you have prepared your ingredients, just add them to a non-metal bowl and let marinate for up to 30 minutes and you’re done!

Salmon Ceviche

Ingredients:

  • the juice of 1 lemon
  • the juice of 1 grapefruit
  • the juice of 3 limes
  • 1/2 red onion, minced
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 bell pepper, diced
  • 1 avocado, diced
  • 1 to 2 salmon filets, pin bones and skin removed, cut into bite sized pieces
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
  • tortilla chips, for serving

To make, juice all of your citrus into a large non-metal bowl.

Add in the onion, garlic, bell pepper, and salmon, and stir to combine and coat everything in the citrus. Season with smoked paprika, salt, and pepper.

Gently stir in the avocado.

Cover and refrigerate for up to 30 minutes.

When ready to eat, stir in the chopped cilantro, then place in a bowl and serve with tortilla chips.

Salmon Ceviche

The salmon when marinating in the citrus goes through a process called denaturing where the salmon will change color and will become a bit firmer, like when cooking salmon (you can see it in the photo before marinating for up to 30 minutes and after).

Salmon Ceviche

This Salmon Ceviche is one of my favorites for warm weather nights where I don’t want to heat up my kitchen but still want a stellar dish. I suggest serving this with a salad as well to make it into a meal.
