Homemade Hot Honey

Jump to Recipe Print Recipe

If you’re looking for a simple DIY gift for friends and family, Homemade Hot Honey is a great option!

Homemade Hot Honey

Hot Honey is honey infused with chili peppers and can be used in so many different ways, including drizzled on pizza to stirred into cocktails to served on charcuterie boards.

Homemade Hot Honey

This recipe for Homemade Hot Honey is made with just three ingredients and can definitely be adapted to your tastes or what you have on hand.

Homemade Hot Honey

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup honey
  • 3 dried chili peppers, split open, or 1 tablespoon red pepper flakes
  • 2 teaspoons apple cider vinegar

To make your homemade hot honey, add the honey and chili peppers or red pepper flakes to a pot over medium heat.

Bring to a simmer. Let simmer for 5 minutes, then remove from heat.

Let steep for 15 minutes, then taste to see if it has enough spice for your liking. If there is not enough spice, add another chili pepper or teaspoon red pepper flakes, bring to a simmer, and let cool again. If there is too much spice, add a drizzle of regular honey until you reach your desired heat level.

After 15 minutes, stir in your apple cider vinegar.

Strain the hot honey through a fine mesh sieve (paid link) into your container of choice [small jars (paid link) or squeeze bottles (paid link) work best].

If desired, you can omit straining. When using dried chilies, I like to include one whole dried chili in the container for decoration. If using crushed red pepper flakes or dried chilies, you can keep your hot honey at room temperature in a container with a lid for up to three months.

Homemade Hot Honey

I used chipotle chilis in my homemade hot honey, and I loved the smokiness they added to the honey.

Have fun experimenting with your favorite dried chilies to see which you like best! Remember that different chilies have different levels of heat so you may want to adjust your ratio of chili pepper to honey depending on the heat.
