I wanted to make another batch of the Applejack Spiked Hot Cider but *gasp* I couldn’t find any apple cider anywhere! There must have been a Thanksgiving rush, but I wanted some darn Apple Cider. But then I remembered I bought a Babycakes Cake Pop Maker (paid link) and figured I could at least make Apple Cinnamon Donut Holes as a sweet apple-y substitute. (Because I couldn’t find apple cider, I substituted apple juice)
Ingredients (this makes 2 1/2 – 3 dozen):
- 1¼ cups all-purpose flour
- ½ cup plus 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/8 teaspoon allspice
- ¼ cup vegetable oil
- 1 egg
- ½ cup apple juice
- ¾ cup sugar
- 1½ teaspoons cinnamon
Plug in the cake pop maker to preheat.
Add the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice in a mixing bowl and mix to combine.
Add the vegetable oil, egg, and apple cider to the dry mix.
Stir until well blended.
In a separate bowl, combine the 3/4 cup sugar and 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon.
Spray each cooking reservoir with cooking spray. Fill each reservoir with 2 teaspoons of batter (the original recipe called for a tablespoon, that was waaay too much and they overflowed).
Bake for 3-4 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the donut holes comes out clean.
Remove the donut holes and add immediately to the cinnamon sugar mixture. Toss to coat.
Serve immediately.
So, it’s not apple cider, but these donut holes are delicious! They are fluffy and have a nice apple-cinnamon taste that I just love, although I’m sure most food rolled in sugar would make me happy.
I think they would really great with some Spiked Apple Cider. Sigh. Maybe next time.

I had to laugh when I saw this photo because I just purchased a cake pop maker on Black Friday and made the same donuts! They were so good and it made me happy that I finally purchased the cake pop maker!

I got a cake pop maker (and a mini cake maker) for Christmas last year and have had NO idea what to do with them, as I’m more of a cookie person anyway. So thanks for this!! Rolled in sugar DOES sound amazing!

Glad I could help Rachel! I think I’m going to make cake balls with my cake pop maker this weekend as well and I’ll post if they turn out ok!
