‘Tis the season for apple cider! Every year, I make sure to pick up some store-bought apple cider to enjoy. But this year, I wanted to try to make my own Fresh Juiced Apple Cider using my Hurom Juicer (paid link) and was surprised with how easy and delicious it was to make!
You can make this fresh juiced apple cider with whatever your favorite apple is, but I suggest aiming for a sweeter apple, like Honeycrisp.
I like to add rye to my cider to make a spiked cider. You can also add bourbon, spiced rum, or drink as is for a non-alcoholic beverage!
Ingredients (makes about 6 cups, multiply as needed):
- 12 apples, cored and sliced
- 10 whole black peppercorns
- 8 whole allspice berries
- 5 whole cloves
- 2 cinnamon sticks
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- the zest of 1 orange
- the zest of 1 lemon
- 9 oz (or 6 shots) rye, bourbon, or spiced rum (omit to make non-alcoholic)
I prefer to use the fine strainer that comes with the Hurom Juicer (paid link) for apple cider. If you want some pulp, use the coarse strainer instead. Set up your juicer and position the juice container on the left and the pulp container on the right of the juicer underneath the spouts.
To make your Fresh Juiced Apple Cider, first core and slice (paid link) your apples.
Add about 1/3 of them to the hopper of the juicer.
Turn on the juicer. Open the latch for the juice to pour into the juice container.
The slow juicer will press the apples, removing pulp as it does so.
Once the juice container is filled, switch off the juicer and pour the juice into a medium sized pot. Return the juice container under the juicer and repeat with your remaining apple slices.
Once all the juice is extracted, turn off your slow juicer. Pour the remaining juice into your pot and turn the pot on over medium heat.
Add in your spices (peppercorns, allspice berries, cloves, cinnamon sticks) and vanilla extract.
Use a peeler (paid link) to peel the zest from your orange and lemon. Add the zest to the pot and bring the mixture to a simmer.
Let simmer for 15 minutes, then turn off the heat. Let steep for at least 15 minutes.
Strain (paid link) the mixture into a serving pitcher (paid link).
To serve, add a shot of rye (or bourbon or spiced rum) to a mug. Pour in the warmed cider and enjoy.
This Fresh Juiced Apple Cider is like autumn in a glass!
The sweetness of the apple juice is enhanced with the spices and vanilla extract.
You can definitely make this ahead of time and heat to your desired temperature when ready to enjoy too!
