Note: I was sent a Drinkmate OmniFizz Beverage Carbonator in order to write this post. Opinions are mine alone.
I know I’m not alone that once the calendar says September, I start assuming fall weather is right around the corner. And yet, the warm weather always holds on longer than I expect.
This recipe for a Fizzy Bourbon Apple Cider is the perfect cocktail for these still-warm evenings while still having a decidedly autumnal flavor.
I used Drinkmate’s OmniFizz Beverage Carbonator (paid link), which can carbonate ANY liquid without diluting it, including cocktails!
This pretty little machine does not require electricity, so it is easy to use basically anywhere. Just screw in the CO2 cylinder, add your ingredients, and press down to carbonate!
The carbonation adds a lightness to the cocktail, resulting in a super refreshing apple cider beverage. This is going to become one of your favorite summer-into-fall cocktails!
Ingredients (makes one cocktail):
- 3/4 cup cold apple cider
- 1/3 cup Bourbon
- the juice of one lemon (about 2 tablespoons)
- 2 (2 ½ inch long) thin slices fresh ginger
Measure out and pour the apple cider, bourbon, lemon juice, and slices of ginger into the Drinkmate bottle.
Screw on the Fizz Infuser and lightly shake the bottle to combine all of the ingredients.
Slide the Fizz Infuser into the machine and push into place so the bottle is vertical. Press down on the top of the unit for one second bursts twice.
Wait 5 seconds and then remove the bottle from the unit. Gently shake the bottle to increase the carbonation level.
Open the slow release valve on the fizz infuser. If the foam reaches the top of the bottle, close the slow release valve and wait for the foam to settle before opening again.
Once you stop hearing the sound of air releasing from the fizz infuser, press the blue fast release button and then unscrew the fizz infuser.
Strain and add to a rocks glass.
Garnish with one of the ginger slices.
This can be served straight up or over ice — I preferred it over ice, personally.
Carbonated apple cider might be my new favorite late summer / early fall beverage! The lemon and ginger add a touch of citrus and spice, respectively, to cut through the sweetness of the cider and bourbon.
You can also make larger batches of this that makes about 4 servings — To make a larger batch, combine, 3 cups apple cider, 1 cup Bourbon, 6 tablespoons fresh lemon juice 8 thin slices of fresh ginger. Carbonate and chill! You can also combine everything ahead of time and the carbonate when ready to enjoy!
I am so excited to see what else I can carbonate next — the options are endless! The Drinkmate OmniFizz Beverage Carbonator comes in five different colors (mine is the Arctic Blue), so you can purchase one that matches your tastes!
