As the holiday season approaches, I have been thinking about all of the holiday traditions my family has, from decorating the tree together to opening one gift on Christmas Eve. My sister and I still don’t live too far from our parents, so we keep up most of our traditions to the day. One of my favorites (and I’m sure this comes as no surprise) is food-related: assembling trifles and baking cookies with my mom.
For as long as I can remember, a few Saturdays before the holidays, my mom would turn on Christmas carols and call us into the kitchen to help bake dozens of cookies – chocolate chip, peanut butter, and oatmeal were always on the list.
So even though I haven’t lived home in years, I still go over to my parent’s house to bake cookies. They don’t seem to mind it too much. 🙂
My mom and I did a test run this weekend (you can never have too many cookie baking weekends!) and made some Oatmeal Cookies with M&M’S® Holiday Baking Minis.
We usually deliver the baked goods to neighbors, so using Glad® Holiday Packaging adds a nice touch.
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup packed light brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 egg
- 1 cup flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon cardamom
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1 1/2 cups Instant Oats
- 1/2 cup M&M’S® Holiday Baking Minis
Add the butter and brown sugar to a large bowl and mix using an electric mixer until fully combined.
Add the vanilla extract and egg and mix to combine.
In a separate bowl, stir together the flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, cardamom, and nutmeg.
Add the dry ingredients to the wet, mixing to combine.
Stir in the oats and M&M’S® Holiday Baking Minis until just combined.
Cover the bowl with Glad® Press and Seal and refrigerate for at least an hour, or overnight.
Preheat your oven to 375 degrees F. Scoop out tablespoon sized cookie dough balls onto a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper about 2 inches apart.
Press down on each cookie dough ball with a spoon to flatten slightly.
Bake for 8-9 minutes. Let cookies cool on the cookie sheet for 5 minutes then transfer to a wire rack to completely cool.
These cookies are chewy, a little bit salty, and nice and sweet with the M&M bites.
The cookies can be packaged up in Glad’s Holiday Packaging, which is great for traveling with baked goods. Even better, Glad food storage containers are freezer-friendly, so you can make batches of cookies ahead of time and store them in your freezer until the holidays!

Those look amazing. We always do a cookie swap every year and it’s hard to come up with new ideas. Really love these. #client
