April Stitch Fix Review

After a “meh” Stitch Fix box in December (I didn’t even post about it although I kept two items), I was really hoping this box would be a better fit. There were still some misses, but for the most part I really enjoyed what I was sent!

New to Stitch Fix? Here’s a quick recap of the service:

• You sign up online and fill out a Style Profile that takes about 10 minutes. It asks you everything from your height and weight to if you prefer dresses over pants and if you’re a mother. The profile tries to get a feeling of your style by showing you different outfit combinations and asking you to rate them as well. They also ask for your price point on different items and will try to stick within your budget. There is a section for you to write additional thoughts to further help the stylist (“I hate polka dots;” “Green is my favorite color;” etc.) and you can even link to a Pinterest board so they have a better sense of your style.
• Choose when you want your box delivered. (Right now, it looks like you have to choose it at least 6 weeks in advance.) There is an option to sign up for a monthly box if you’d like but it is not required. A stylist will review your Style Profile as well as any comments you left on the profile and will choose five items for your box. When the box ships, you will be charged $20 for the styling. You can apply this $20 towards anything you keep from your shipment; if you choose nothing, they keep the $20 fee.
• When the box arrives, Stitch Fix strongly suggests you try on everything, even if at first look you don’t think you like one of the items. The items all come with a styling card to give you an idea of what to wear with them so you can use clothing you already own to see how the item looks as an outfit.
• You have three days to decide what you want to keep. Stitch Fix provides a pre-paid mailing bag so it’s easy to ship things back. You fill out a survey on the website with what you plan to keep, the fit/style of the item, and any additional comments you may have. As I mentioned above, if you buy anything, the $20 styling fee is applied towards your purchase. If you keep all five items, you are given a 25% discount on everything.

 

Each box is sent with these little style cards with suggestions on how to wear the items sent, which is really helpful.

 

 

This round, my box came with three dresses, a blouse, and a cardigan. At first look, I thought my stylist did a pretty darn good job; I liked most of the items immediately, although I wouldn’t necessarily pick them out for myself.

 

1. Layla Striped Elbow Patch Detail Cardigan $48.00

I am a cardigan fanatic. I wear them basically daily. And this was was SO soft. I absolutely love the elbow patches too, how cute is that? I also liked the length; I could even wear it with leggings!

I knew almost immediately I was keeping it. The only thing I’m worried about is styling this cardigan —  it’s cream and dark grey so white might look odd. The card suggested a chambray button down underneath but that doesn’t really make sense to me … I guess I will have to try it out though!

 

2. Delmare Elephant Print Cut-Out Detail Blouse $48.00

I loved everything about this blouse. The elephant print is adorable, I loved the placement of the cut outs (although it means you have to wear a strapless bra with it because of where they are), and the material was so silky.  Definitely a keeper!

 

3. Shelby Twist Front Lace Print Dress $58.00

So. I was a bit confused as soon as I opened this. Lace print? It’s this weird overlay with a slightly more opaque lining underneath. It really didn’t fit my style. Also the “twist front” was not flattering on me and the dress was too short for my liking. Bye bye dress.

 

4. Dovette Draped Detail Dress $58.00

Meh. Another not so flattering choice. I liked the color but it was clingy and poofy all at the same time. The draped detail also made me feel like I was wearing a sash. Sent back.

 

5. Jodie Chambray Dot Print Fit and Flare Dress $98.00

I didn’t want to like this dress. Chambray as a dress just didn’t sound cute at all. But I LOVE THIS DRESS.  It came with the belt I’m wearing in the photo too.  Of course I love the most expensive thing in this box. Blah.

I wish there was an option to choose a $25-$75 range instead of the “As cheap as it gets” and $50-$100 range because it would fit my budget more accurately. Ah well. Anyways, absolutely keeping this dress. Which means I will be wearing it quite a bit to justify the price.

 

I keep hoping that one of these times I will keep the whole box and get my 25% off discount but today is not that day. Although keeping three pieces isn’t too shabby!
