What a cozy recipe — the homemade chai simple syrup with cardamom, star anise, and fresh ginger is the kind of detail that separates a good cocktail from a great one. Most people reach for a store-bought syrup and call it a day, but building it from scratch like this makes a noticeable difference in depth of flavor.
The bourbon cream and maple syrup combo is something we've been playing with ourselves at Madison Bar & Grill in Hoboken. Our Flannel Weather cocktail uses Horse Soldier Bourbon with apple cider, maple syrup, and orange bitters — that same warm, rich sweetness that just fits the colder months perfectly.
Going to try the bourbon barrel-aged maple syrup tip next time. That small swap sounds like it adds a lot without overcomplicating the build.

The orange juice in the marinade is such a smart addition. Most fish taco recipes stop at lime and cilantro but that combination of fresh orange, lime zest, and garlic together sounds like it completely changes the depth of flavor. Four hours of marinating time is worth planning ahead for. Also love that this recipe came from a baseball game conversation between innings because that is exactly how the best recipes get passed around. Making this one soon.

Love your weekend coffee routine!

The fresh grind + pour over combo makes perfect sense for slow mornings. That ritual of watching the bloom happen feels almost meditative.

Kalita Wave mention caught my eye—underrated choice for even extraction. Curious if you stick with paper filters or experiment with metal?

Question: What pour-over grind size/timing do you dial in for your favorite beans? Always hunting better weekend brews.

Perfect way to ease into Saturday. Cheers to more mornings like this!

This was such a cozy and relatable read! I really liked how you described your weekend coffee routine as a time to slow down and actually enjoy the moment instead of rushing like weekdays. The idea of sitting together, catching up, and just enjoying a simple cup of coffee really shows how meaningful those small routines can be.

Also loved the “fake-fancy” touch with the milk frother—that little detail made it feel like your own mini coffee shop at home! It’s a great reminder that it’s not just about the coffee itself, but the experience around it.

Thanks for sharing this—definitely inspired me to be more intentional with my own weekend mornings
